Meral Gezici Yalçın is a researcher at the Institute for Interdisciplinary Research on Conflict and Violence at the University of Bielefeld.

Meral graduated from the Psychology department at Hacettepe University in 1997 and took her master’s degree in Social Psychology at the same university in 2001. She was awarded her PhD from the University of Marburg (Germany) in 2007 with a dissertation entitled “Collective action of migrants from Turkey living in Germany”.

After her PhD, Dr Gezici Yalçın worked on a variety of empowerment projects with women who had migrated from Turkey to Germany. She returned to academia in 2013 and is now an affiliate researcher at the Institute for Interdisciplinary Research on Conflict and Violence at the University of Bielefeld, Germany. Meral’s research interests are in migration, collective action, gendered relations, dehumanization, spatial relations, and daily life.

Her recent book “Göç Psikolojisi” (Psychology of Migration) was published in September 2017 and she is also the co-author of the book “Ne Ders Olsa Veririz: Akademisyenin Vasıfsız İşçiye Dönüşümü” (Ready to Teach Anything: Transformation of Academics into Unskilled Labor).
